TSHWANE LAUNCHES RECYCLING STATIONS TO TACKLE WASTE CRISIS

In a bid to tackle the mounting challenge of waste management, the City of Tshwane has joined forces with the Petco Producer Responsibility Organisation to introduce waste recycling stations at Fountains Valley Resort.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to steer recyclable waste away from the City’s overflowing landfill sites while fostering a culture of waste reduction for a greener urban landscape.

Collaborative launch highlights environmental commitment

The launch event, which garnered widespread support from various stakeholders, including governmental bodies such as the national Department of Fisheries, Forestry and the Environment, and the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, showcased a collective commitment to environmental sustainability.

Additionally, non-governmental organisations and local enterprises, including Tetra Pak, CCBSA, Pro Alliance, IWMSA, and Plastic SA, lent their expertise and resources to the cause.

The introduction of recycling stations at Fountains Valley Resort underscores a broader strategy to promote waste separation at the source, empowering residents and visitors alike to actively participate in the city’s waste management efforts.

By embracing innovative solutions and advocating for robust environmental legislation, the initiative aligns with the principles of the waste management hierarchy, prioritising alternatives to landfill disposal.
