LORD CAMERON'S WHISTLESTOP TOUR OF ASIA REACHES MONGOLIA

Lord Cameron posed up a storm today as his whistlestop tour of Asia reached Mongolia.

The Foreign Secretary, a keen horse rider, was shown a traditional saddle during a meeting with the country's PM on his visit to Ulaanbaatar.

He also sat in on an English lesson for schoolchildren, and held talks with the president.

It is the first high-level visit to Mongolia by a UK minister in a decade.  

The peer has also been to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan as he tries to strengthen Britain's links to central Asia.

Embarking on his five-day trip, Lord Cameron said: 'We live in a contested, competitive world. If you want to protect and promote British interests you need to get out there and compete.

'Central Asia is at the epicentre of some of the biggest challenges we face and it's vital for the UK and the region that we drive forward its future prosperity.'

Lord Cameron has racked up huge air miles since being appointed he Rishi Sunak last November.

He has been banging the drum for British business during his latest jaunt.

The peer has announced £50million of development funding for the region over the next three years.

He has also been discussing giving language teachers access to tailored British Council materials, while the amount of funding for Chevening scholarships has been doubled.
